The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is pleased to announce the appointment of Dianne Smith as the new Executive Director, Melbourne Chamber of Commerce.

The position is responsible for the guidance and leadership of the oldest business member organisation in Victoria, which includes some of the largest and most successful businesses operating in Victoria.

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Mark Stone AM said Ms Smith, who is currently Chief Executive of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), would bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and energy to the role.

“I have known Dianne for many years and she has proven experience leading an organisation and growing industry opportunities in her time at VTIC,” he said.

“During her five years at VTIC, Dianne has increased its members and united the industry to speak under one brand and one voice.

“I know that Dianne will be an exceptional addition to our executive team, and I look forward to welcoming her into her new role in October.”

Ms Smith’s previous experience includes a mix of roles in the tourism sector, prior to VTIC as a senior manager at Parks Victoria and chief of Ballarat Tourism. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Victoria University.

“I’m thrilled to have this new opportunity and look forward to this exciting and rewarding role,” said Ms Smith.

“Melbourne is a vibrant and diverse city. Businesses know it, residents know it and visitors find out very quickly. I am delighted to be able to take on a role that will present Melbourne and Victoria as a premier place for business.”

Ms Smith outlined membership growth, evolution of the Victorian Tourism Awards to an event run for industry by industry, and advocacy for a visitor economy approach as key achievements from her time at VTIC.

The Victorian Chamber and VTIC Board will shortly commence recruitment for the position of Chief Executive of the Victoria Tourism Industry Council.

The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1851, is the most influential business organisation in Victoria, informing and servicing more than 15,000 members, customers and clients around the state.
