Gnarrwirring Ngitj Festival

Sovereign Hill and the Wadawurrung community are presenting an Aboriginal history and cultural festival as part of National Reconciliation Week, designed to deepen Australians’ understanding of their shared history.

The week-long festivities called ‘Gnarrwirring Ngitj’ (/no,wor-ring nitch), meaning Learning Together in Wadawurrung language, will be held from 26 May – 3 June 2017, and will celebrate Aboriginal stories, traditions and history, as well as the important contribution that Aboriginal People made to the 19th century gold rushes in Victoria.

One of the key highlights of the week with be a very special Wadawurrung Corroboree. Held on Saturday 3 June at 5:15pm, this performance of traditional Wadawurrung dance and song will be performed by firelight in this one-night-only performance. Food with a bush twist will be available to purchase. While this is a free event, due to its popularity, tickets must be booked prior.
