Kyneton’s popular walking and cycling trail along the Campaspe River will undergo major improvement works thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund (RJIF).
Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford announced the grant with Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas while meeting with Macedon Ranges Shire Council on the banks of the Campaspe River in Kyneton.
The $400,000 Campaspe River Trail Improvement and Connections Project will enhance community connections and improve links between key retail, transport and recreation centres in the area.
The Labor Government’s investment in the project will help create six construction jobs over a six month period and two ongoing jobs upon completion. Council is committed to sourcing local labour and materials to deliver the project.
The project involves the construction of a 1 kilometre long, 2.5 metre wide concrete shared trail, and includes five footbridges or culverts along selected sections of the trail.
Directional signage will be installed to help trail users find key features such as the Kyneton Botanical Gardens, Kyneton Community Park, Quarry Reserve, Kyneton Racecourse, Kyneton Museum and the Piper Street retail precinct.
The new concrete path will be a significant improvement on the dirt track in place along sections of the trail and will be better prepared to cope with future flooding events.
It will also improve the visitor experience of the trail through the provision of clear and culturally sensitive visitor information, which will support growth in day trip visitor numbers, jobs and economic outcomes.
The project will be delivered by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council in collaboration with the Campaspe River & Land Management Group.
The Government’s $500 million Regional Jobs and infrastructure Fund boosts regional jobs, invests in vital infrastructure and makes regional Victoria a better place to live, work and visit.
