The Andrews Labor Government will invest $95,000 in infrastructure improvements at Tower Hill to attract more visitors, boost local jobs and give more people the opportunity to explore the ancient volcano and nature reserve.
Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford visited Tower Hill in Koroit today to announce funding for Worn Gundidj Cooperative to improve the popular nature‑based tourism experience.
The Labor Government investment will make it even more successful with a broader range of tourism experiences and improvements to information and layout within the visitor centre.
The project will refit the visitor centre, develop new tours and products, and create a new marketing strategy to promote the improved Tower Hill to schools, tour companies, community groups and the public.
It will boost the number of full time roles at Tower Hill Nature Reserve from four to eight, and provide employment opportunities for local indigenous people, specifically young people looking to enter the tourism sector.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio also announced an extra $50,000 to upgrade the interpretive signage at Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve.
Updated information boards will be installed at three lookouts around the edge of the crater – at Koroit Water Tank Lookout, Von Guerard’s Lookout and Cairn Lookout.
The increased visitor numbers and revenue at Tower Hill will help to sustain the enterprise well into the future and inject thousands of dollars into the local economy.
The project aligns with the Great South Coast Regional Partnership’s priorities to secure a strong and diverse regional economy with more local jobs and celebrate the region’s renowned environment, culture and iconic landscapes.
