From white rabbits and Cheshire cats to the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland are coming to Victoria early next year.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren visited the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) today, where the world premiere of Wonderland will open in April next year.
The exhibition will explore the many screen adaptations of Lewis Carroll’s classic, which has captivated fans for more than 150 years.
Wonderland is a collaboration between ACMI and DreamWorks, using the same theatrical trickery and special effects that have played such an important role in the numerous film adaptions of the book.
The exhibition allows people to direct their own experience, engaging their sense of curiosity as Alice did in Wonderland.
Wonderland is expected to attract 150,000 visitors and marks the 24th exhibition in the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series — which brings the world’s best art to Melbourne each year.
It’s the second Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition for 2018, alongside the hugely anticipated MoMA, Museum of Modern Art exhibition coming to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in June 2018, presenting works never before seen in Australia.
The NGV’s Van Gogh and the Seasons formed part of this year’s series and was the fastest selling exhibition ever presented at the gallery.
The Winter Masterpieces has lured more than five million visitors from Victoria, interstate and overseas since it was established — supporting jobs and boosting our economy.
