The Andrews Labor Government is revving up Gippsland ahead of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, bringing a taste of the festivities to Moe for the first time.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren and Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing unveiled a Formula 1 Grand Prix car today, where it will be on display for locals at the Moe Library.
The Australian Grand Prix is central to what makes Victoria the sporting capital of Australia – the buzz it creates around the city and the economic benefits it reaps are undeniable.
The exhibit at Moe Library highlights the importance of attracting major sporting events to the Latrobe Valley, which create jobs and keep local traders busy.
That’s why the Labor Government is turning the Latrobe Valley into one of regional Australia’s top sporting hubs through its unprecedented $85 million investment.
The Labor Government’s package and partnership with the Collingwood Football Club is already paying big dividends, attracting and securing a suite of major sporting events and community programs in recent months.
The Latrobe Valley has already hosted an AFL preseason game, an AFLW match, a Collingwood Football Club Super Netball game, the NBL Blitz, a Melbourne Victory W-League friendly, and the Melbourne Stars versus Hobart Hurricanes twenty20 cricket exhibition.
While in the Valley, Mr Eren also announced that the Labor Government will deliver $194,926 to redevelop Yallourn Golf Club’s course and facilities.
The upgrade will reduce the workload for volunteers and allow the club to attract and host more major tournaments.
Mr Eren also met with representatives of the Moe and District Netball Association to inspect the courts at Monash Reserve, and explore future opportunities to improve the facilities.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix car will be on show at the Moe Library until 4:00pm Wednesday 14 March.
