The Andrews Labor Government is backing the Michelle Payne inspired Victorian feature film Ride Like a Girl, which is set to put racing and regional Victoria on the world stage.
Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford joined Minister for Racing Martin Pakula, critically acclaimed actress and the film’s director Rachel Griffiths, and Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne to launch the film at the Ballarat Turf Club today.
The multimillion-dollar production is proudly supported by Film Victoria and tells the inspiring story of Michelle Payne, the first and only female jockey to ever win the prestigious Melbourne Cup in its 155-year history.
The Labor Government support will ensure regional Victoria and the State’s $2.8 billion racing industry are showcased to the world when the movie is released next year.
It will also see regional Victoria take centre stage, with filming in regional locations including Ballarat, Riddells Creek, Clarkefield and Hanging Rock.
It’s estimated the film will generate the equivalent of a worldwide advertising campaign worth up to $30 million for Victoria, generating economic activity in tourism, hospitality, major regional events, and the racing industry.
