Timeline Festival all started with a dispute over a stolen pig. No-one knew who stole the pig but the Skovgaards blamed the Mortensens and the Mortensens blamed the Skovgaards. The Ljungstrands didn’t care who stole the pig, they were just there to watch the melee. Honour needed to be satisfied and that meant just one thing a holmgang.

In normal circumstances, shields being smashed to pieces with axes in a display of mortal combat was an everyday occurrence to marauding Vikings, but having it witnessed by a Napoleonic rifleman, a Samurai Warrior and a sword wielding pet rat was a bit unusual, unless of course you happen to be a re-enactor at the 2018 Timeline Festival where nothing is a surprise.

Kryal Castle near Ballarat will be hosting the annual Timeline Festival. With over 300 living history re-enactors attending from all over Australia, this is a must-see activity for your calendar.
