The Andrews Labor Government is helping Victoria’s regional centres and rural towns shine on the big stage during the 2018 Jayco Herald Sun Tour.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren today revealed the Tour schedule for next year’s instalment, and the addition of a women’s event for the very first time.
The inaugural Herald Sun Women’s Tour in 2018 will ensure some of the world’s best female riders stay in Victoria to compete as part of this iconic race.
The Jayco Herald Sun Tour is supported by the Labor Government and Visit Victoria, and showcases some of the state’s most picturesque destinations.
After an action-packed prologue through Melbourne’s CBD, the 2018 Tour will see riders battle it out through iconic tourist hotspots including Healesville, Kinglake and the Mitchelton Winery, as well as Colac, Warrnambool and Ballarat.
Mr Eren announced a three-year extension of Visit Victoria’s support for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, locking away the flagship event until at least 2020.
The Tour isn’t just a great sporting spectacle, it’s also a big driver of visitation and a key reason why Victoria is the sports and tourism capital of Australia, because when cycling fans are flocking to stages all over the state, they’re providing valuable opportunities for small businesses.
The 2018 Jayco Herald Sun Tour is just one of the dates on Victoria’s summer of cycling calendar, which also features the Federation Uni Road National Championships and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
The Jayco Herald Sun Tour will be held between 30 January and 4 February.
