Gippsland locals have an opportunity to continue their conversation with the Andrews Labor Government, as community consultation leading up to the next Gippsland Regional Assembly kicks off.
Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford encouraged local residents to engage with the Gippsland Regional Partnership ahead of its 2017 Regional Assembly, to be held in Sale on 16 August. The Partnership will also hold two mini assemblies over the coming weeks, at Leongatha on 24 July and Lakes Entrance on 3 August.
The Labor Government established nine Regional Partnerships last July, to give communities the opportunity to have their say on local issues and provide a direct voice into government decision-making.
Through extensive community engagement last year, the Gippsland Partnership identified the region’s priorities for the future and then presented their ideas directly to government.
Top priorities for Gippsland included better public transport, developing a plan for tourism across the region, and boosting the local food and fibre economy.
The Gippsland Partnership has started seeing the results of its hard work, with the Labor Government investing to improve the region’s rail network and boost digital connectivity around the state.
This year’s consultation period and Regional Assemblies give the community a chance to build on the momentum already gained and share thoughts about local opportunities that span every government portfolio.
The Gippsland Partnership includes the shires of Bass Coast, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, Latrobe, South Gippsland and Wellington.
